Our Story and Vision

Healthy Kids at Play (HKAP) was founded with a clear purpose: to provide high-quality, family-centred allied health care for children. Our vision is to create a space where every child receives the support they need to grow, move, communicate, and thrive.

What started as a small early intervention practice has grown into a trusted paediatric allied health clinic offering a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to care, with practitioners working together to support children across every stage of development.

HKAP was founded by Lorraine Makumbe, a dedicated clinician with qualifications in Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, and Speech Pathology. With a strong background in paediatric therapy and developmental care, Lorraine built HKAP to be more than just a clinic. She envisioned a welcoming environment where families feel heard, children are celebrated for who they are, and services are tailored to each child's unique strengths and needs.

At Healthy Kids at Play, we specialise in early intervention services, developmental therapy, and support for neurodivergent children. Whether your child needs help with movement, communication, sensory processing, or social development, we are here to walk alongside you.

This is more than therapy. It’s a community built on care, connection, and outcomes that matter.

At HKAP, we are committed to helping children of all ages, from birth through adolescence, overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. Whether it's a developmental delay, physical challenge, or cognitive hurdle, we are here to provide the resources, therapies, and care that ensure every child can flourish. Our vision is simple but profound: to ensure that every child, especially those with additional support needs, has access to the services, support, and opportunities they need to succeed in life.

Our Guiding Philosophy:

At Healthy Kids at Play, we believe that every child deserves the chance to grow, learn, and participate fully in life’s activities. We know that every child is unique, and that’s why we take a neuro-affirming approach, which respects and understands the individual neurological and developmental needs of each child. Our model of care is rooted in cultural intelligence and cultural competence, ensuring that our services are responsive and respectful to the diverse cultural backgrounds of the children and families we serve. This inclusive approach allows us to build trust and work collaboratively with families from all cultural contexts, honouring their traditions, beliefs, and values.

Our model of care is centred on inclusivity, offering family-centred, collaborative services that bring together parents, educators, and healthcare professionals to ensure that no child is left behind. We are deeply committed to providing culturally competent care that takes into account the unique needs of each child and family, particularly in communities that may face additional barriers to access and equity.
