Psychologist
Helping children thrive through understanding, support, and emotional growth.

What is a Clinical Psychologist?
A Clinical Psychologist is a fully registered mental health professional endorsed by the Psychology Board of Australia. They complete at least six years of university study, including supervised practical training and ongoing professional development. Clinical Psychologists are qualified to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of emotional, behavioural and developmental challenges in children and families.
At Healthy Kids at Play our Clinical Psychologists work with you and your child to design a personalised therapy plan that uses proven strategies to build confidence, resilience and long term wellbeing.
What is a Provisional Psychologist?
A Provisional Psychologist holds provisional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) while completing their final supervised practice under the close guidance of an experienced registered psychologist. This group includes domestic graduates and internationally trained psychologists who need to align their skills with Australian requirements. Provisional Psychologists deliver the same high quality interventions and assessments as Clinical Psychologists, but always under expert supervision. Because they are in their final training stage, their services are often more affordable without compromising on safety or quality of care.
How Psychologists help children
Every child experiences stress, change, and big feelings at times. But when these feelings begin to affect their daily life, relationships, or learning, a clinical psychologist can provide the support they need. Our psychologists help children:
- Understand and manage emotions like anxiety, anger, sadness, or fear
- Improve self-esteem and build emotional resilience
- Cope with trauma, grief, or loss
- Strengthen problem-solving and communication skills
- Manage behavioural difficulties at home or school
- Develop healthy coping strategies for stress and big transitions
- Navigate challenges related to autism, ADHD, learning differences, or developmental delays
All therapy sessions are tailored to your child’s age, needs, and personality, often using a combination of talk therapy, creative expression, play-based approaches, and cognitive behavioural techniques (CBT).
When Should Parents Consider Seeing a Clinical Psychologist?
You may want to consider booking with a clinical psychologist at Healthy Kids at Play if your child:
- Has ongoing emotional outbursts, withdrawal, or mood swings
- Is experiencing anxiety, phobias, low confidence, or difficulty coping
- Has experienced bullying, trauma, separation, or loss
- Struggles with friendships, learning, or school pressure
- Has trouble adjusting to big life changes (i.e new environment, divorce, new sibling)
- Needs a mental health assessment, diagnosis, or report for school or NDIS
Early support can help prevent challenges from growing and gives children the skills to manage future stress with confidence.
